The "Corrado Basile" Papyrus Museum of Syracuse in Sicily, created and managed by the International Papyrus Institute, a non-profit cultural institution with legal personality, was founded by Corrado Basile and Anna Di Natale in 1987.
The Papyrus Museum deals with the study, conservation and dissemination of evidence of the papyrus culture, which holds a first-rate place in the history of civilization.
The Museum carries out the recovery of artefacts and documentation on the use of the papyrus plant among the different populations, as well as research activities whose results have provided a concrete contribution to the solution of many questions ranging from the origin of the papyrus to the preservation of papyri of the river Ciane (Syracuse), from the enhancement of historical traditions linked to papyrus to the studies on ancient manufacturing techniques and to the treatment and conservation of papyrus documents.
