Arrigoni Noventa Pojana PalaceArrigoni Noventa Pojana Palace (also spelled Poiana) is a palace located in Corso Palladio in Vicenza, Bonifacio Poiana is Palladio's client for the restoration of his urban home in Contra San Tomaso. In 1576 the building was unfinished, and it will remain so.
It is included in the list of 23 Palladian monuments of the city which is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
The building as it appears today is the result of the union of two building entities, originally separated by the alley Do Rode (Due Ruote): this union was due to the request that the owner of the two buildings, Vincenzo Pojana, presented to the Municipality of Vicenza on the 22nd. January 1561. The construction took place between 1563 and 1566.
Despite the absence of official documentary evidence or Andrea Palladio's autographed drawings, it is believed that the design of the building is to be attributed to the great Venetian architect, given the architectural quality of the noble floor, which includes two floors, and the elegance of the design of the details, such as the composite capitals and the entablature.
If the attribution to Palladio, as it almost certainly is, is correct, it should be noted that elements such as the pilasters without entasis are not consistent with the Palladian style of the 1560s, and therefore it is very likely that the left side of the building is to be ascribed to the artist's youthful period, that is in the 1540s, and that he was then called to complete his work with the neighboring building, when Pojana decided to expand his house. The above is confirmed by the differences in the configuration of the base area in the two halves of the building.
