Palace Mocenigo Home NewPalace Mocenigo Home New was inhabited for several centuries by the illustrious family from which it takes its name, which in its family tree includes seven doges. In addition to these, numerous members of the family were writers, procurators, captains, ambassadors and ecclesiastics.
In 1945 the Palazzo Mocenigo di San Stae (dialect version of Sant'Eustacchio), was bequeathed to the Municipality of Venice by the last descendant of the family, Alvise Nicolò, with most of the original furnishings, to be used as an Art Gallery , to complete the Correr Museum.
The furnishings and frescoed rooms joined the Civic Museums only at the end of the seventies, following the death of the widow Mocenigo, Costanza Faà di Bruno. However, we will have to wait until 1985 to witness the opening to the public of Palazzo Mocenigo as a museum. The Study Center for the History of Textile and Costume was welcomed here, without affecting the atmosphere of a "lived-in home" that was wanted to be preserved following the opening.
The specialized library and offices were placed on the first floor, where the original furnishings had been removed, while the first mezzanine and the ceiling were used as a storage area for fabrics and costumes. The other floors of the building, divided into apartments, have been left exactly as donated by Alvise Nicolò Mocenigo.
