The Social Theater of Como is the opera house of Como.
It hosted Niccolò Paganini, Franz Liszt and Giuditta Pasta. Built in place of the Castello della Torre Rotonda by the will of the Society of Boxers of the Teatro di Como established by the mayor of Como Gian Pietro Porro, based on a project by the architect Giuseppe Cusi, it was inaugurated on 28 August 1813 with the representation of "Adriano in Siria" .
The theater had not been completed on the southern front due to static problems and disputes with the property, so the architect Zanoja, rector of the Brera Academy, the main architecture school of the then Italian Kingdom, intervened initially then Luigi Canonica, the greatest theater builder of the time, was commissioned, who finally completed the southern facade (1819-1821) which was then covered in the 1830s by a large scenic tower overlooking an open-air staircase, based on a project by engineer Carlo Ponci.
