Vasari House is a building in Arezzo located in via XX Settembre 55. It was the family residence of the painter, architect and art historian Giorgio Vasari and preserves valuable frescoed rooms. Since December 2014, the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities has managed it through the Tuscany Museum Complex, which in December 2019 became the Regional Directorate of Museums.
The artist bought the land with the house under construction in 1541 and began its decoration in 1542. In 1550 he married Niccolosa Bacci and moved there with his wife.
Very busy between Florence, Rome and his travels, the artist lived there for short periods, however intervening directly both in the completion and decoration works, including the dispersed nucleus of furnishings. He had also designed a facade, which was never built. With various interruptions and thanks to the help of his pupils, the decorative project of the frescoes was completed in 1568.
