The Alto Aventino Geopaleontological Museum is located on the top floor of the Ducal Castle of Palena, in the province of Chieti.
The museum itinerary begins in the "Sala della Conoscenza" where, on both sides of the room, the general themes of Geology and Paleontology are addressed, mirroring themes: on the right, geology as the evolution of the planet Earth "Gaia", and the principles that paleontology on the left regulates it as the evolution of life on Earth.
In the terminal part of the Hall of Knowledge a sector is dedicated to the great mammals of the Quaternary, and it is here that we find the great defense and the mandible of Mammuthus meridionalis, the mandible and other remains of Hippopotamus antiquus.
In the rooms dedicated to the territory, that is in the "Aventine Room" and in the two "Palena Rooms, the protagonists are proposed, the fossils in their ancient living environments and in those of today, the geological landscapes.
