The Gianfilippo Carettoni National Archaeological Museum of Cassino is located along the ss. 149 which leads from the city center to Montecassino.
The building was built close to the walls of the ancient Casinum, a center of remote origin, and the archaeological area, in a position above the amphitheater and near the so-called Porta Campana, which came to light only after the creation of the museum itself.
Since December 2014, the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities has managed it through the Lazio Museum Complex, which in December 2019 became the Regional Directorate of Museums.
