The National Palace Museum is an art museum located in the city of Taipei in Taiwan. It is the National Museum of the Democratic Republic of Taiwan and houses a permanent collection of over 697,490 Chinese antiques and objects, one of the largest in the world. Most of his collection consists of high quality pieces assembled by several Chinese emperors.
The National Palace Museum should not be confused with the Palace Museum (note the absence of the term "national"), located inside the Forbidden City in Beijing, the capital of the People's Republic of China. Both institutions share the same roots, which were split in two following the Chinese civil war.
It is the national museum of the Republic of China, and has a permanent collection of over 697,490 pieces of ancient Chinese artifacts and artwork, making it one of the largest in the world.
The collection includes over 8,000 years of Chinese history from the Neolithic age to the late Qing dynasty. Mostly it is made up of high quality pieces collected from ancient emperors of China. In 2008 it was one of the most visited museums on the planet.
