Church of Santa Tecla

The Church of Santa Tecla is a 17th century religious building located in Barumini, Sardinia. It is consecrated to Catholic worship and is part of the parish of the Immaculate Conception, in the archdiocese of Oristano.

The church stands on the eastern outskirts of the town, annexed to the former convent of the same name, for the Nulvesi su cunventu 'e josso ("the convent below") so called to distinguish it from another monastery, that of San Bonaventura, located in the most high of the town and called su cunvento 'e subra, "the convent above".

The church houses inside a valuable painting of the Madonna del Rimedio much venerated by the population. It also has the privilege of the holy door, attributed to it thanks to the discovery, in 1985, of the condaghe of Santa Tecla.

The church has the main façade adorned with a crown of battlements, brackets and a bell tower, while in the center of the facade there is an octagonal rose window. For a century, from the end of the 18th to the end of the 19th century, the religious building also served as a public cemetery, until the Paiolu cemetery was built in 1885. The plan and structure are influenced by the late Gothic style.
