Del Carretto Palace in GorzegnoDel Carretto Palace in Gorzegno is located in Turin, in a regular-shaped block historically called "Isola dell'Assunta", whose construction dates back to the second half of the 17th century.
The residence is located in a context rich in noble settlements, as evidenced by the multiple decorative devices indicating a certain "taste for living" closely linked to noble wealth, which have come down to us intact and widely spread in the internal rooms, in the entrance, in the facades.
The subsequent transformations, almost a century later, certainly involved the obliteration of some wooden floors; The lively polychrome stucco architecture of the atrium could be traced back to this historical moment.
A rich decorative phase can be attributed to the second half of the nineteenth century which embellished some rooms, characterized by gilded stucco, fireplaces, boiserie and mirrors.
The Del Carretto family was of Aleramic descent and was divided into many branches, lords of fiefdoms in the Western Ligurian Riviera and Lower Piedmont. The founder of the dynasty was Enrico del Vasto, son of Bonifacio del Vasto, lord of western Liguria and southern Piedmont. Enrico is also often called Enrico I Del Carretto, although he never used this name.
Enrico del Vasto descended from Aleramo and therefore could boast a mythical imperial lineage; however his wife, the wife of his nephew Giacomo Del Carretto and consequently all their descendants boasted a certain imperial lineage.
Today Del Carretto Palace in Gorzegno is a luxury hotel and event venue. It is a popular destination for both tourists and locals.
