Lanza PalaceLanza Palace is linked to the history documented by the family archive, among documents from various eras, it preserves autograph letters written in 1554 by Bona Sforza, queen of Poland, to Pompeo Lanza, her diplomat to Charles V and then to Mary Tudor: in those years the family was welcomed among the family and guests of the Habsburg emperor.
The construction in 1697 of the baroque balconies of the facade supported by gargoyles is then documented, the foundation in 1731 of the private oratory in the house, granted with a brief by Pope Benedict XIII: among others it houses the relic of Sant'Alfonso Maria de' Liguoro by the family hosted as their relative.
In 1745 Baron Carlo Lanza built the rearmost body of the house which with the terrace overlooking the courtyard, in 1807 following a project by the engineer Luigi Jannotta the façade was restored according to a sober neoclassical taste, preserving the baroque balconies while inside some rooms they are decorated with late eighteenth-century tempera paintings.
The house preserves the carpet on which the Treaty of Casalanza was signed on May 20, 1815, which ousted Joachim Murat and returned the throne of Naples to Ferdinand of Bourbon.
The palace was occupied by French soldiers in 1799 and 1806 when it housed General Berthier. The ancient stables currently house a literary café and a library while an area of ??the attics is used for hospitality.
Lanza Palace has been the home of the Lanza family since 1453, patricians of Capua since the 15th century; since that time it has been the subject of a right of purchase which today retains ownership of the property in the hands of the sixteenth generation.

A notarial deed from those years, from the archive present in the house, testifies that the family already lived in the house at that time: "... in parti domorum... sitarum Capue, in parish ecclesie Sancti Rufi in Capua, iuxta viam publicam...".
The building is located in the heart of the historic center of Capua, a few steps from the ancient Grand Priory of the Order of Malta.
