Castle of San Pietro in Cerro - mim – Museum in MotionThe Castle of San Pietro was built in 1460 by will of Bartolomeo Barattieri, jurist and ambassador of Piacenza at the court of Pope Julius II della Rovere.
The construction work on the castle, which is located next to an older building, evidence of which dates back to the 12th century, lasted for over thirty years.
Over the centuries the manor has not undergone substantial changes and today offers a faithful and precious testimony of a fifteenth-century noble residence.
Arranged on a quadrangular structure from which emerge the two round towers placed to defend the north side and the entrance keep, the castle appears externally austere and compact, while inside a double order of delicately designed arches makes it graceful and elegant .
Among the internal environments, the two halls of honour with finely decorated and painted wooden beam ceilings, the library rich in an important collection of ancient volumes concerning the history of Piacenza, the copper kitchen, the icebox and the underground.
The construction is given space by large green spaces, the tree-lined park in which the original paths wind and the meadow, equally vast, which opens up to the right.
The structure is fully furnished and visitable and hosts the mim – Museum in Motion, a contemporary art collection which offers a synthesis of the major trends from the post-war period to the present day, in the evocative rooms of the attic.
The specially restored museum space extends along the entire route between the two towers, in the ancient wall walkway and in the granary.
In the dim light of the underground, since 2013, there has been a permanent exhibition of a horse and forty-five life-size statues of the terracotta warriors of the Xi'an army, reproductions certified by the Chinese government and declared a world heritage site by UNESCO.
