Museum in the Buonconsiglio Castle

The Buonconsiglio Castle is one of the best-known buildings in Trento and one of the largest monumental complexes in Trentino-Alto Adige (Italy).

The Museum in the Buonconsiglio Castle is a museum that houses a vast collection of works of art, furnishings, sculptures and historical finds that tell the story of the Trentino region. Among the most famous works preserved in the museum are the Cycle of the Months of Torre Aquila, a cycle of frescoes from the 15th century, and the Madonna of the Organists by Giovanni Buonconsiglio.

From the 13th century until the end of the 18th century, it was the residence of the prince bishops of Trento and is made up of a series of buildings from different eras, enclosed within a ring of walls in a slightly elevated position with respect to the city.

Castelvecchio is the oldest nucleus, dominated by a mighty cylindrical tower; at the southern end of the complex is Torre Aquila, which houses the famous Cycle of the Months, one of the most notable pictorial cycles with a profane theme of the late Italian Middle Ages.

???????

The Magno Palazzo is the sixteenth-century expansion in the forms of the Italian Renaissance, commissioned by the prince bishop and cardinal Bernardo Clesio (1485-1539); it preserves an important mannerist pictorial cycle in an excellent state of conservation. The baroque Giunta Albertina dates back to the end of the seventeenth century.
