Ragogna Castle

Ragogna Castle is a fortified complex, located in San Pietro di Ragogna, a hamlet of Ragogna, in the province of Udine.

The Upper Castle of Ragogna is located in the hamlet of San Pietro, on a hill, in one of the most evocative and panoramic places where the Tagliamento created the Pinzano strait.

The oldest quotation with which Ragogna is commonly indicated, we owe it to Venanzio Fortunaro, writer and cleric who lived in the sixth century. after Christ, in a verse of his work "Vita Sancti Martini" written around 565 AD. the following quotation appears: ... et super instat aquis Reuunia Teliamenti, ... ... and Reunia overlooks the waters of the Tagliamento from above, ... The author, to keep faith with a vow, wanted to venerate the tomb of San Martino in Tours, thus embarking on a long journey that from Ravenna, going up north, took him to the French town, after having crossed the Alps, Germany and Upper Gaul.

During this journey he traveled the ancient Roman road that ran along the right bank of the Tagliamento, passing it right on the Ragogna ford.
