The Castle of Capua in Gambatesa is located on the hill of the Serrone hill, in the heart of the historic center of the town. It underwent various transformations over the centuries: from castle-fortress to castle-feudal residence in medieval times, finally, in the 16th century, into Renaissance castle-palace by the Di Capua feudal family. It then became a baronial-marquis property, then private, today state property.
Since December 2014, the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities has been managing it through the Molise Museum Complex, which in December 2019 became the Regional Directorate for Museums.
