Madonna del Ghisallo Cycling MuseumMadonna del Ghisallo Cycling Museum, nestled in the heart of the Larian Triangle in Magreglio, Lombardy, stands as a testament to the rich cycling heritage of the region. Inaugurated on October 14, 2006, with dedicatory words from Sergio Zavoli, it is intricately linked to the Sanctuary of Ghisallo, devoted to the Madonna, the patron saint of cyclists.
This museum is more than a collection of artifacts; it is an ode to the world of road cycling. It encapsulates the spirit of endurance, courage, pain, and joy that characterizes the sport, as well as the nature and imagery of cycling.
The initiative took root in 1994 with the establishment of the "Museo del Ciclismo Madonna del Ghisallo" association, later transformed into a foundation. Construction began on October 24, 1999, marked by the laying of the foundation stone, sourced from the Candoglia Quarry in Val d'Ossola. This quarry holds the exclusive right to use the marble for the Milan Cathedral. The last stone, laid on May 31, 2006, bears the inscription "Omnia Vincit Amor" and originates from the Azzano Quarry, the same quarry that supplied Michelangelo Buonarroti with marble for the construction of St. Peter's Basilica in Rome.
Officially recognized as a museum of Lombardy, the Museo del Ciclismo owes its realization to the collaborative efforts led by Fiorenzo Magni and supported by the Lombardy Region. It is a haven for cycling enthusiasts, offering a journey through the history and passion of this beloved sport.
