The Chiostro dello Scalzo is an important frescoed cycle in a small cloister at number 69 of via Cavour in Florence.
Since December 2014, the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities has been managing it through the Tuscany Museum Complex, which in December 2019 became the Regional Directorate for Museums.
Small hidden jewel of the city, it was actually the access portico to the destroyed church of the Compagnia dei Disciplinati di San Giovanni Battista, known as dello Scalzo because the cross-holder used to go barefoot during the processions.
The church was partly located along the stretch of the current road, which was only opened in the 18th century.
The architectural construction, simple and harmonious, was designed by Giuliano da Sangallo, while on the walls it was entirely frescoed with the elegant (and less expensive for clients) technique of monochrome, a chiaroscuro without colors.
