Fortuny Palace - Pesaro Palace of the Orfei

Fortuny Palace is a Gothic palace in Venice located in the San Marco district. It takes its name from the last owner, the artist Mariano Fortuny y Madrazo, and is home to the homonymous museum.

Today the museum is part of the Venice Civic Museums Foundation. Previously, the building was known as Pesaro Palace of the Orfei.

The palace was founded at the end of the 15th century by the Pesaro nobles, who lived there until the 18th century, before moving to Ca 'Pesaro. The palace became for a time the seat of the Orfei Philharmonic Academy, hence the name Palazzo Pesaro degli Orfei, with which it was later known.

Mariano Fortuny, who bought it at the beginning of the twentieth century to make it his atelier, was an eclectic man who dealt with photography, scenography and scenography, textile creations, painting.

After his death, his wife Henriette donated the palace, which still preserved Mariano's fabrics and collections well, to the Municipality of Venice (1956) who made it the place dedicated to dealing with the disciplines of visual communication, particularly experimentation and innovation. , in harmony with the spirit and culture of the old owner.
