The Synagogue of Livorno is located not far from Piazza Grande, within the pentagonal city of Buontalenti, in the large Benamozegh square. It was built on a project by the architect Angelo Di Castro and completed in 1962 on the site of the ancient synagogue, partially destroyed during the last world war.
It is with Rome, Trieste and Genoa, one of the only four great synagogues of the twentieth century in Italy and the only one to be built in the period following the Second World War.
