Israelite Temple - Jewish Community of Modena and Reggio Emilia

The Jewish Temple of Modena, more simply called a synagogue, is located in Piazza Mazzini, a few tens of meters from the town hall. It was built by the Jewish community of Modena in 1873, in an evocative Lombard style.

The project, with an elliptical plan inscribed in a rectangular area (the twelve columns that support the women's gallery represent the twelve tribes of Israel), is by Ludovico Maglietta; the decorations painted inside (all strictly non-figurative, as required by Jewish law), are by Ferdinando Manzini.
