Synagogue of Vercell
The Synagogue of Vercelli is located in via Foa 56/58, in the area of the ancient ghetto. It is a monumental example of a nineteenth-century synagogue of emancipation.
In the same area where the great synagogue now stands, there was a small and modest oratory, inaugurated in 1740 within the new ghetto, established that same year. With the emancipation of 1848 the problem immediately arose of building a new place of worship more suited to the numerical size of the Jewish community of Vercelli (over 600 people) and its prestige in the city.
