Acconia is a fraction of the municipality of Curinga, province of Catanzaro, with a population of about 2,500 inhabitants. It is located on the plain 7 km from Curinga center and 5 km from Marina di Curinga.
Acconia is the current name, but in ancient times it was called Lacconia, Lanconia or Laconia. The first official mention dates back to Norman documents, in reference to the fact that Roberto il Guiscardo chose the place to stop with his army before descending towards Reggio. Certainly the place was already inhabited before. The Greeks most likely chose it as a useful maritime port between the entrances of the Amato and Angitola. The name may have been given to remember the Greek region of Laconia.
