The Castello della Mandria Village located inside the La Mandria natural park was a Savoy residence starting from the 1860s, when the first king of Italy Vittorio Emanuele II decided to settle here due to its proximity to the city of Turin which it would soon become the first capital of Italy and to be able to live far from the Court with his mistress first, and then morganatic wife, Rosa Vercellana. In addition, the king here can devote himself to his great passion: hunting.
For this purpose, he has the park surrounded by a wall about 27 km long, still existing today, and he inserts various animal breeds into it.
The architects Domenico Ferri worked on the Borgo Castello for the interiors, Barnaba Panizza and the Ticino-born Leopoldo Galli for the exterior.
