Founded by Finmeccanica (now Leonardo), the Municipality of Genoa, the Province of Genoa (now the Metropolitan City) and the Liguria Region, the Foundation is an institution dedicated to the themes of economic, business and work culture.
The Foundation has its headquarters at Villa Cattaneo, also known as Villa dell'Olmo or Villa Delle Piane is a residential building classified as a Genoese patrician villa located in the Cornigliano Campi district of Genoa. The villa is located adjacent to the abbey of San Niccolò del Boschetto and was built on a property belonging to the Grimaldi family in the 15th century.
In 1978 the building was purchased by Ansaldo, which owned a large part of the surrounding former agricultural land, converted into industrial and steelmaking activities. A restoration work has allowed the recovery of the structure and the paintings and also the safety of the whole.
Villa is the representative office of the Ansaldo Foundation which brings together all the companies born from the dismemberment of the Italian company.
In the belief that civil progress and economic development can generate a synergistic relationship capable of increasing the competitiveness of businesses and, together, the quality of life of communities, the Foundation is ideally placed between the world of culture and the business world; a role that can be assumed and developed only if based on partnership, consensus and involvement of social components.
A non-profit institution with legal personality, the Foundation promotes studies and research, cultural initiatives and events, advanced training activities and is committed to the protection and enhancement of the archival heritage produced by businesses and other economic actors.
A non-profit institution with legal personality, the Foundation benefits from the support of many companies: in particular Ansaldo Energia, Ansaldo STS and RINA have been engaged for years in the financial and operational support of the Foundation which, for its part, makes available to them companies a prestigious place to hold conferences, initiatives and company meetings.
Of particular strategic importance is the role of the Leonardo Group which, in addition to guaranteeing constant financial support, in 2008 gave the Foundation the ten-year usufruct of the historic Villa Cattaneo dell'Olmo, while ensuring its maintenance, and identified the Foundation as the main headquarters of the Group for its management training activities.
