Brion Tomb - FAI Brion Memorial

The Brion Tomb is a monumental funeral complex, located along the original border of the small cemetery of San Vito, in the hamlet of Altivole in the province of Treviso.

It was designed and built by the Venetian architect Carlo Scarpa on commission (1969) by Onorina Brion Tomasin, to honor the memory of the late and beloved joint Giuseppe Brion, founder and owner of the Brionvega, and to retain his remains, and those of some relatives.

The complex was erected between 1970 and 1978, the year in which Scarpa himself died, following a fall from a staircase in a shop in Sendai, Japan.

The work was then completed on the plans of the architect, who was also buried there, as required in his will, at a discreet point of conjunction between his monumental creation and the old cemetery of the town.

The funeral complex is structured in the shape of an "inverted L" and is composed of the propylaea, an arcosolium, a chapel, a "meditation pavilion" placed on a body of water and an aedicule that houses the tombs of the relatives.
