Lo Squero Auditorium

Ancient workshop for boat repair, the structure can be placed thanks to the examination of historical land registers in a period between 1830 and 1879, given that it is present in the Austro-Italian land register (1879), while it does not appear in the Austrian one (1830) and in the previous Napoleonic one.

When the Squero was built, the nearby customs warehouse (Ex Convitto, the current exhibition center) was already placed perpendicular to the dock, whose structure is explicitly inspired by the warehouses of the Dogana della Salute. Even the Squero, later than at least thirty years, is inspired by the great Venetian architecture, taking up the model of the Arsenale whose design, materials and functional scheme it recovers.

The building was transformed in 2016 into a modern and suggestive Auditorium, thanks to the intervention of the architects Cattaruzza and Millosevich and with the contribution of the Interregional Provveditorato for Public Works of the Veneto, Trentino Alto Adige, Friuli Venezia Giulia and of the Virginio Bruni Tedeschi Foundation . The layout of the room was created with the contribution of the Venice Foundation, Melissa Ulfane and an anonymous donor.
