Cini Castle of Monselice

The Cini Castle of Monselice is a complex of buildings made up of four main nuclei, plus a fortress, all built and renovated between the eleventh and sixteenth centuries.

The oldest part, on the right when entering the main courtyard in the Great Court, is the Castelletto, with the adjoining Romanesque House, built between the 11th and 12th centuries.

On the left stands the massive silhouette of the Ezzelino tower, from the 13th century. In the centre, as a connecting nucleus between the two existing buildings, Palazzo Marcello was built in the 15th century.

On the top of the hill stands a fortress built by Ezzelino III da Romano on the orders of Emperor Federico II of Swabia.

Finally, the castle's library, which stands on the large esplanade in front of the Ezzelino tower, housed in a pre-existing building from the end of the 16th century.

The tower was built by Ezzelino III da Romano in the 13th century, as part of a military-defensive strengthening of the city's second circle of walls.

At the beginning of the 14th century, when the city was conquered by the Carraresi, the large rooms of Ezzelino's palace were divided into smaller rooms, partially used as civil residences.
