Guglionesi, in Molise, the largest in the region with just over 100 km² of surface.
According to some scholars, the toponym "Guglionesi" derives from the "spire" (dial. [G] uje) a characteristic plant that was born on the banks of the Biferno river; for others the name derives from the combination of colle-nisyus (Colle di Nisio) which would allude to Bacchus.
In fact, Collenisio was one of his names before assuming the current name of Guglionesi. In his "Annali degli Abruzzi" Antinori reports it as "Colle Dionisio", "Guilloniaco" and "Collonisi".
