Rubelli Archive

The Historical Collection and the Rubelli Archives, based in Ca 'Pisani Rubelli, gather over 6000 textile documents dating from the late fifteenth to the first half of the twentieth century. The collection began to be established in the second half of the nineteenth century, simultaneously with the birth of the company and at a time when in Venice we are witnessing an economic and cultural recovery aimed at recovering traditional craft activities, in full correspondence with taste eclectic and European revivalist.

The fabrics of the Rubelli archive are in fact an irreplaceable source of creative ideas for the new collections, also offering an excellent starting point for the creation of exclusive fabrics made according to specific customer requests. The role of indispensable support of the archive is also revealed in the preliminary research that precedes the reconstructions of ancient textile documents that belonged to historic houses, embassies, museums and cultural institutions all over the world.

Over the course of over a century, the collection has been considerably enriched, reaching today to include not only European fabrics, but also documents from the East, Africa and the Americas. An essential part of the collection is the Rubelli historical archive which jealously guards the testimonies of the historical Rubelli production of its origins: among these, the precious silk velvets made for the Royal House at the beginning of the twentieth century and numerous other fabrics resulting from the creative collaboration with illustrious artists, architects and designers such as Vittorio Zecchin, Guido Cadorin, Umberto Bellotto and Gio Ponti.

The textile collection is integrated into the graphic core of the archive, made up of several hundred sketches and preparatory drawings for fabrics and more than 2000 put on paper, hand-painted technical papers for weaving, dated from the late 1800s to the 1950s.
