Tarzo

In Tarzo di Treviso, investigations carried out following some notable archaeological finds have ascertained the human presence in the territory between the Neolithic and the Bronze Age; among other things, the material found proving the existence of a pile-dwelling settlement in Colmaggiore is very interesting.

The ancient inhabitants, of Venetian and Celtic lineage, present since the second millennium BC, they came into contact and were eventually absorbed into the vast Roman dominion in the 2nd century BC. the toponyms of the major localities of the Territory (Tarzo, Arfanta and Corbanese) can be traced back to these first rulers. The collapse of the Empire was followed by years of political insecurity marred by the passage of barbarian populations, which ended only with the arrival of the Lombards and the imposition of a new government that could enjoy about two hundred years of supremacy. The result of the Lombard territorial arrangement was the establishment of the Duchy of Ceneda (Vittorio Veneto), which later became a county under the Frankish Empire.
