Forlì

Forlì is an Italian town that is the capital of the province of Forlì-Cesena in Romagna. It is the bishopric of the diocese of Forlì-Bertinoro.

After having been, from the beginning of the Savoy Kingdom of Italy and for almost the entire twentieth century, the capital of the province of Forlì, a name under which the territory of Rimini was also included, since 1992 it has shared the name of the province with Cesena, of which, however, Forlì remains the only capital.

The city is also known by the dialect nickname of "Zitadon", the "Cittadone", for having long been the most populous city in Romagna, then surpassed by both Ravenna and Rimini. In history she has also been called by the name of Livia.

Forlì is located in the historical region of Romagna, of which it is, as Dante says in De Vulgari eloquentia, "meditullium", ie the central area.

The city, founded according to tradition in 188 BC, celebrated its 22 centuries of life in 2012-2013.

The historian Sigismondo Marchesi, however, dates back to 208 BC.
