Villa Emo Capodilista is a sixteenth-century Venetian villa located near Selvazzano Dentro, on the Montecchia hill. Designed by Dario Varotari the Elder as a hunting lodge in the second half of the 16th century, it remained the property of the family who originally commissioned it.
The square plan is also proposed in the distribution of the internal rooms, which are four on the ground floor and four on the second floor, connected by a four-ramp staircase.
The rooms are painted, with frescoes depicting mythological scenes, family history, Roman history and various decorations such as putti and friezes. The vineyard room has a frescoed ceiling of a detailed pergola of leaves and bunches of grapes, while on the walls there is a garden pavilion with the walls made of vine plants, beyond which the surrounding space is painted with architectures and garden facilities.
On one side there are large windows closed by variously arranged curtains, on the north side there is instead a large canopy with white and blue stripes. Dario Varotari the Elder is also credited with the fresco in the ceiling of the bedroom of the villas, a scene that shows Time and Virtue that drives away vice.
The villa is surrounded by Italian gardens and has semicircular exedras on each side. Nearby there is an oratory dedicated to San Pancrazio dating back to the first half of the nineteenth century where the tombs of some members of the Capodilista family are kept.
