Stables of the QuirinaleThe Quirinal Stables are a palace in Rome.
Located in front of the Quirinal Palace, also owned by the Presidency of the Republic, they are home to exhibitions and cultural events.
The Palazzo delle Scuderie al Quirinale was built between 1722 and 1732.
The building maintained its original function as a stable until 1938, when it was adapted as a garage.
In the 1980s it was transformed into a museum of carriages.
Between 1997 and 1999 it was completely restored to a project by the Friulian architect Gae Aulenti, in time for the 2000 Jubilee.
It was destined for an important exhibition space (about 1,500 m²), inaugurated by President Ciampi and granted to the municipality of Rome.
It currently hosts large international exhibitions and is one of the most visited venues for temporary art exhibitions in Rome, together with the Vittoriano.
In the past known with the historical name of Papal Stables of the Quirinale, the adjective was later eliminated to avoid misunderstandings about the property.
