Barrago Palace

Barrago Palace, an elegant Art Nouveau building in the center of Cagliari, owes its name to its last owner. The building was actually built, between 1913 and 1915, by the Ligurian entrepreneur Agostino Casaccia who set up on the island, where he stayed until 1923, an activity probably linked to the wine sector.

In 1941 the building was bought by Francesco Barrago and in 1974 the Ministry of Education declared its historical-artistic interest.

In 1989 it was registered among the state property and destined to be the seat of the Archival Superintendence for Sardinia which moved there in 1996, at the end of a long restoration.

The building, with a rectangular plan, is composed of a mezzanine floor and a first floor; It has fine terracotta decorations on the facades, an elegant wrought iron staircase inside and delicate pear-themed paintings on the walls and ceilings.

Today it is the Library of the Archival Superintendency for Sardinia.
