Triton Palace

Triton Palace takes its name from the magnificent Triton Fountain in Rome which also gives its name to the street from which it begins its path dotted with imposing Umbertine palaces alternating with Baroque buildings and characterized by a large and qualified variety of shops.

The Triton Palace, completed in 1910, as evidenced by the date affixed to the entrance between festoons, stands on via del Tritone, at the corner of via del Boccaccio, and is the headquarters of Sorgente Group, led by Valter Mainetti.

The building, completed under the direction of the engineer Pietro Satti and with a project by the architect prof. G.B. Boni and the engineer Menegazzo, turns out to be of considerable interest for the history of Liberty in Rome and in Italy for the modernity of the proportions played vertically boldly stretched in height and for the geometric stylization to which all the decorative elements of the facade are subjected, finding parallels with the Viennese Secession of Joseph Maria Olbrich.

We are, in fact, in Liberty (the Italian version of the international movement of Art Nouveau), which for the first time indissolubly and uniquely links and directs, on a global scale, the modern world before the First World War, forerunner of all aspects of current globalization, while maintaining each 'national' social reality its own indigenous awareness of cultural roots. It is clear that all the arts were sisters aimed at the same end: architecture, sculpture, painting, literature, and together with furnishing elements and furniture. 'Structure' and 'decoration' become integrated elements in which the need for beauty can be traced in every aspect of existence, from the smallest detail of the inlay to the sculptural lines of the building's architectural reliefs.

In 2011 the Palazzo was the subject of a careful enhancement work with the restoration of the exterior and the facade, bringing back friezes and decorations to their splendor, and with the redevelopment of the interiors welcoming many works of art and Art Nouveau furniture and Art Déco, thanks to the commitment of Valter and Paola Mainetti, who lead the Sorgente Group Foundation.

Precisely on the occasion of the inauguration of the Spazio Espositivo Tritone, on the ground floor of the Palazzo, these works were exhibited and made accessible in the exhibition: "A corner of Art Nouveau' in Rome ".
