Strong Diamond (Forte Diamante), located on the heights between Val Polcevera and Val Bisagno, takes its name from the mountain on which it was built between 1756 and 1758 on the proposal of the engineer Jacques De Sicre, to protect the dominant terminal position of the ridge that develops north of Sperone.
Its function was, together with the strong Brother Older, Brother Minor and Puin, to protect the Spur (one of the three vulnerable sectors of the New Walls) as part of an advanced chain defense system, according to the logic of the entrenched camp.
Documents indicating the presence on the summit of Monte Diamante of ancient military positions have been in existence since 1395 with the "Bastia del Pino", of which however there was no more news.
The position returned to the limelight during the Austrian siege of 1747, when a small star-shaped palisade was built to monitor the valleys from any Austrian incursion.
The fortification was definitively abandoned by the military state property in 1914 and never used again, abandoning the structure to decay, except for some limited conservation interventions by the municipality of Sant'Olcese in whose territory the fort is included, the only one not being inside the municipality of Genoa.
Today the inside of the structure cannot be visited and closed to the public.
