Village 250 meters above sea level, Pentedattilo stands perched on the cliff of Monte Calvario with a characteristic shape reminiscent of a cyclopean hand with five fingers.
Pentedattilo, a village full of charm and mystery, is immersed in an enchanting landscape, the Vallata Sant'Elia, where you can admire the bizarre sandstone fortresses of Santa Lena and Prasterà in the midst of the broom, olive trees, mulberries and prickly pears, and in spring with blooming almond trees and mimosas.
The valley also houses several mills with a Greek wheel type, distributed in the area between Pentedattilo and Fossato, which in the past were fed by the waters of the Sant'Elia river, a very important resource for the economy of the valley.
But the element that captures the attention more than any other is the majestic sandstone cliff above the village.
The small town maintains its charm unaltered and constitutes a true historical heritage to be known and protected.
In the mid-sixties of the twentieth century the town was completely abandoned until the early 1980s, when it was rediscovered by young people and associations.
Thus began a slow path of recovery by volunteers from all over Europe.
