Pellegrino Cellars

The history of the Pellegrino Cellars began in 1880, exactly 20 years after the landing of Giuseppe Garibaldi in Marsala: the notary and winemaker Paolo Pellegrino, with the help of his son Carlo, founded the house by equipping it with his first establishment.

Within a few years, from a family business, Cantine Pellegrino became one of the most important enological industries in Marsala.

With the death of Paolo Pellegrino, the reins of the company passed to his son Carlo and his wife Josephine Despagne, a French gentlewoman, daughter of the winemaker Oscar Pierre Despagne, a native of Sauternais. Carlo and Josephine's son, Paolo Pellegrino, subsequently took over the technical-administrative management of the company together with his brother-in-law Vincenzo Alagna.

The Cavaliere del Lavoro Benedetto Tumbarello, husband of Agata Pellegrino, was president of the company until 1996, while Michele Sala (husband of one of the Tumbarello daughters, Doretta) was CEO until 2008.

Since that date, the roles of president and chief executive officer have been covered respectively by Pietro Alagna and Benedetto Renda (husband of another Tumburello daughter, Caterina).
