The Church and Monastery of San Francesco with the adjoining Convent of the Capuchins are Catholic places of worship located in the municipality of Monterosso al Mare, along the slope of the San Cristoforo hill in La Spezia.
The convent of the Capuchin friars of Monterosso was ranked 1st in the VII national census of "The places of the heart 2014" of the FAI.
A must for international tourism, the Cinque Terre are known all over the world, but not everyone knows the Via dei Santuari, which crosses them, joining five places of the spirit where the Virgin Mary has been venerated since the Middle Ages. The convent of San Francesco is a stop on this suggestive path of paths that run 27 km parallel to the coast on the heights of the hinterland, and which represents a pilgrimage of intense spirituality.
Built on the steep slope of San Cristoforo, the convent dates back to the 17th century. In 1622 the church dedicated to St. Francis of Assisi was consecrated in the following year.
Today the shelter is available upon request for spiritual, study and meditation retreats.
