Zabarella Palace is a historic Paduan palace, built by the Zabarella family. It is located in the historic center of the city, in via S. Francesco, 27.
Built on existing Roman structures, the complex reaches its current appearance in the Middle Ages, when the tower was built in the municipal period. In the nineteenth century Giacomo Zabarella, the last descendant of the family, had the interiors decorated by Giuseppe Borsato, Giovanni Carlo Bevilacqua and Francesco Hayez.
Dying without heirs in 1846, the latter marked the extinction of his dynastic branch, but not of the surname. For a few decades the building remained the residence of his wife Anna and her descendants, then it was sold but nevertheless remained a private residence, until, in 1920, Credito Veneto bought it to make it its prestigious headquarters. Initially no substantial interventions were carried out, but already in 1925 expansion works were necessary and a large two-storey hemicycle was built, reflecting the neoclassical atmosphere.
After the Second World War, the building became the seat of the Società del Casino Pedrocchi and a meeting place for educated Paduan citizens.
The company then left its headquarters in 1988 and the building, after almost ten years of careful restoration and archaeological excavations, resumed life in 1996, once again fulfilling the functions that distinguished it in medieval times, that is, a representative place, the building and headquarters of commercial activities. the adjacencies.
