Leonida Repaci House of Culture


The "Leonida Repaci" House of Culture is a modern multifunctional building named after Leonida Repaci (Palmi 1898 - Marina di Pietrasanta 1985), writer, cultural operator and founder of the Viareggio Prize, the House of Culture was inaugurated on January 17, 1982 and preserves over 200 works of art donated by the writer .

It stands on the upper part of the city and is surrounded by a large garden where bronze sculptures are located and where two austere Roman columns stand out, coming from the archaeological site of ancient Taureana.

The building is based:

  • The Leonida and Albertina Repaci Art Gallery;
  • The Raffaele Corso Museum of Ethnography and Folklore;
  • The Domenico Topa Municipal Library;
  • The Nicola De Rosa Antiquarium;
  • The Francesco Cilea and Nicola Antonio Manfroce Musical Museum;
  • The Michele Guerrisi Gipsoteca;
  • The State Archives of Reggio Calabria - Palmi Section;
  • The municipal auditorium.

Its construction began in 1968 by the will of the municipal administration of the time and under the auspices of the honorable Giacomo Mancini, then Minister of Public Works. The building was inaugurated on January 17, 1982 and named after the Palmese writer Leonida Repaci in November 1984.

The structure has an area of over 2,000 m² and its construction was financed by the Department of Public Works of the Calabria Region, designed by technicians from the Superintendency of Public Works of Catanzaro and built by workers from Reggio.
