Bridge of Sighs

The Bridge of Sighs in Venice is built in Istrian stone, Baroque style, and was built at the beginning of the seventeenth century on a project by the architect Antonio Contin, son of Bernardino Contin and grandson of Antonio Da Ponte: the builder of the Rialto bridge , by order of Doge Marino Grimani, whose coat of arms is carved there.

Ponte dei Sospiri

This characteristic bridge of Venice, located a short distance from Piazza San Marco, crosses the Rio di Palazzo connecting, with a double passage, the Doge's Palace to the New Prisons.

Bridge so called for the sighs of the inmates who were taken from the Doge's Palace to the prisons.
