Pompeii Amphitheater - Virtual Tour 360°

The Amphitheater of Pompeii was built around 70 BC. by the duoviri Gaio Quinzio Valgo and Marco Porcio and was used for circus games and fights between gladiators; these parades, sometimes advertised with graffiti on the facades of the houses, took place in grandiose form.

Following the Pompeii earthquake in 62 the building suffered considerable damage and at the same time the ten-year provision was canceled: the entire structure was completely renovated, as evidenced by two inscriptions found in the entrance passage, by the duoviri Caio and Cuspio Pensa , father and son.
